Community Reads in Rhythm

Ed Keegan of Rhythm Connect facilitated an interactive rhythm program in conjunction with the Honeoye Falls-Lima School District (HFL) and the Mendon Public library on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. The event was held at the beautiful Westminster Hall in Mendon, NY, and was part of their Community Reads Program.

This was a great intergenerational event with participants ranging in age from 3-70+ years old/young! The theme of Community Reads Program for this year is on mental wellness. This event confirmed what research reveals–that interactive group rhythm programs are such a powerful tool for promoting wellness, reliving stress, improving mood, empowering creative expression, building community and connection. You can’t help but feel better when drumming together!

As part of the Community Reads Program, the HFL school district purchased 15 copies of Ed Keegan’s book, Drumming with Dexter: Drumming Through the Jungle. Ed co-wrote the book with his daughter Rebekah, and it is based on one of his popular school rhythm programs.

This was such a wonderful group to work with. I love that it was so intergeneration. Thank you Paula, Angela, Antonio, Bonnie, and all of the participants for making this a wonderful experience! Live in rhythm . . .
